...he carried himself with the confidence of a man used to danger.
Stranger in Waiting
There he suddenly was — a mysterious newcomer at the gala raising contributions for a struggling Texas ranching association ruined by wildfire and drought. Disdained by nearly all who attended,
he stood apart in the exaggerated style of an weathered cowboy, with polished boots, a silver-buckled belt, and a weather-beaten hat resting on the arm of the couch..
No one knew him. Rumor claimed he had come from the Texas Panhandle, a hard country of dust and cattle drives, and he carried himself with the confidence of a man used to danger.
Yet beneath the swagger was a quieter purpose: to discreetly deliver a message to a certain lady before the night was over — news that would bring her unexpected relief.

A lone cowboy, resplendent in dust-worn boots and a tailored jacket, stands among a sea of tuxedos and evening gowns. Under the gallery lights his weathered hands and patient posture contrast sharply with the polished formality around him. The painting captures that suspended moment between arrival and acceptance — the quiet dignity of an outsider who belongs by right of presence, not conformity. Subtle textures and a restrained palette highlight the tension between rugged individuality and curated society, inviting viewers to consider who is seen, who is admired, and who remains quietly waiting. This work balances narrative clarity with emotional ambiguity, making "Stranger in Waiting" both portrait and social observation.
